The premise of Five Nights at Freddy's is inspired and tinged with the familiar nostalgia of our collective childhood - pizza parties at the family amusement center of Anytown, USA, presided over by archaic animatronic creatures who think they are a band of rock.
We always knew there was a dark side there, among the dusty games consoles and rickety tables - something lurking, something... unhinged. It's a storyline that propelled Freddy Fazbear and his friends into the retrosphere of stardom - a franchise of countless games, books and merchandise steeped in deep history, with the feature film from director Emma Tammi (and our friends at Blumhouse and Universal) as the culmination of it all.
However, an effective horror experience is nothing without the sound to accompany it, and the Newton brothers certainly lived up to this score. From the opening song, they hypnotize us with the haunting voices of a children's choir, cut by the melodies of a horror nursery rhyme. It's a spine-chilling hors d'oeuvre, leading into a pulsing, synthesized main course that's both a throwback to the '90s and freshly sinister. How could you expect anything less from the boys behind the manic music of Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep?
What better way to celebrate a deliciously evil soundtrack than with a killer compact disc? This is the Five Nights at Freddy's CD from iam8bit, which contains the film's original soundtrack on a glossy reflective circle, carefully packaged in a premium digipak and wrapped with an exclusive Obi tape. The cover features the entire Freddy Fazbear gang, from Chica to Foxy to Bonnie and, of course, Freddy himself. It's a real treat for the fans.
