Ikai embodies the spirit of the classic psychological horror genre with a defenseless main character, unable to attack evil creatures. However, it explores a new sense of horror by forcing the player to confront threats directly, without fleeing or attacking.
Every mechanic in the game is meant to create this feeling of helplessness and create a tense atmosphere. The slow, precise and natural movements used as a means of interaction resemble those of real life to promote immersion in Ikai's strange world.
