Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction (Original Soundtrack) Vinyl - 2LP

Composer James Duhamel teamed up with the One Take Tigers (the nickname for Ubisoft Montreal's sound engineers) to create mysterious and eerie real-time generative music for Extraction. The fragments queued in the game include electronic sounds created by Duhamel, a rabid synthesizer collector, and a set of acoustic instruments recorded by him and the "Tigers" - all synced to the same bpm and key to help the basic pieces come together.

The score's "trio de force" consists of the octobasse, ondes martenot and pipe organ, supplemented by instruments such as the banjo and clarinet, and percussion such as the angklung and waterphones . Some live recordings were subjected to real-time audio processing to create eerie effects in the moment. And it's not uncommon for an audio team to sneak other oddities into a soundscape - rakes, clashing swords and kitchen utensils serve as percussive sounds on the Extraction soundtrack.

To compose the soundtrack album from musical fragments from a game with an otherwise haphazard score, the team brought an auteur touch to the proceedings, creating a sort of structured musical narrative. The goal was to create an album that was original, immersive, and helped communicate the feel of the game.
