The events of The Callisto Protocol take place in the year 2320 on Callisto, the dead moon of Jupiter. The player plays Jacob Lee, an inmate of Iron Black prison. As a mysterious epidemic plunges the moon into chaos, Jacob must face his deepest fears to defeat the bloodthirsty creatures chasing him, but also uncover the dark secrets hidden by the powerful United Jupiter Company.

The Callisto Protocol features a unique combination of shooting and melee, including a unique gravitational weapon once used by Black Iron prison guards to control the population. To survive, the player will have to master his arsenal at his fingertips! Indeed, he will be forced to approach his monstrous adversaries in order to cut off their limbs or blow off their legs, and to show great creativity by taking advantage of his environment in order to survive the mortal perils that he will cross on his route.
