28 tracks chosen by composer Erik Desiderio have been specially mastered for vinyl and will be pressed on thick discs. These will be slipped into a luxury double gatefold sleeve, the illustration of which was produced by the Eleventh Hour Games team.
Desiderio had to step back in time to create the soundtrack for each of the game's four eras of Eterra, with the music on this album focusing primarily on the brighter God Era and the darker Ruined Era. dark and apocalyptic. Most eras in the game sound natural and acoustic, with more traditional instrumentation, while the Ruined era focuses on distorted synthetic and acoustic sounds. During the game's early access period, the composer was able to gather feedback from fans, which helped shape the final score.
Certain lesser-known instruments and techniques color the music. The sound of the lute helped capture the beauty of the world, while the tagelharpa, intense and rough, embodied the conflict of a war-torn land. In Ruined Era, the fretless bass guitar and expressive rainbow serve to create a sense of unease, with the melodic material harkening back from earlier eras.
The choral lyrics are sung in Old Norse, particularly on the "Last Epoch Theme" with its soulful refrain "Fyoern Oowled" (trans. "Ancient Era"). The singers are Ffion Elisa, Colm McGuiness, Mason Lieberman and Matt Lambert.
